A funny thing happened on the way into the courthouse…

Friday, August 8th, 2008

I went to the courthouse in Rancho Cucamonga yesterday to drop of the remainder of the divorce papers (Hurrah).

When you walk into the courthouse, you have to put your belongings on a scanner and walk through a metal detector.

I put my purse down and walked through the metal detector.  I was wearing my medicine pump so I was expecting the “beep”.  The lady wanded me down and let me through.

My purse came through the scanner around the same time and when I went over to pick it up, security stopped me and said that they saw an electronic device and wanted to see it.  Not wanting to be deemed a security threat, I complied and pulled out my ipod.

and then, my bluetooth headset.

next was my cell phone.

after that, my verizon wireless USB modem.

and after that, my new Asus EEE PC (2G Surf in Galactic Black)

I asked them if they wanted me to turn them all on, but they just gave me a look and told me to go about my business.

It’s going to be interesting at the airport.

I’m such a geek.

Busy Busy Weekend

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

It seems as though the first weekend in August is a popular time for my friends to have kids.

Yesterday, I went to my friend M’s 8 year old son’s birthday party.  My god - boys are loud.  There were about 12 kids and the same amount of adults.  She had this group come and everyone got to pet snakes, snapping turtles, frogs and hold a tarantula.

Yes, I pet all the animals (except the scorpions) and held the tarantula.

It was so fun.  I hadn’t been to her son’s birthday party since he was three and loved Bob the Builder.  They had a Bob pinata and he was so upset that he was going to have to “hurt” Bob to get the candy.  This year’s pinata was a T-Rex and there were no qualms about beating it to hell.

This afternoon I went to S’s daughter’s first birthday.  There were about 40 people including an assortment of kids under 4.   The birthday girl was given a cake of her own and was soon covered in purple frosting.  She didn’t dive into the cake - just took a chilled approach to the eventual devastation.

Now I’m putting together/destroying my home office.  I’ve needed a new desk forever but I can’t find one that I like for less that a gillion dollars.  I was perusing le Target Shoppe and found long black folding tables - precisely what I was looking for.   So the old desk is now in my guest room (or in the doorframe since I didn’t get it pushed in all the way.  My computer is all hooked up and I’m happily typing away on my new table.   I need another one but that can wait until tomorrow.

Anyhoo…I’d best be getting dinner and start my laundry.

My Hair Drama

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

So, I’ve been going to the same hairdresser for the last 6 years and she is really sweet and I’ve mostly liked the haircuts I’ve gotten.

Two haircuts ago, she gave me the cutest flippy style that I got lots of compliments on.  So I requested it again.

What I got…was a disaster of layers.   This is my hair after not being cut for 8 weeks:

Picture 001

(Please pay no attention to the puffy face and bags under my eyes…I am indeed overweight but I’ve also been up since 4:30am.  I couldn’t sleep so I rocked the house with some Aerosmtih Guitar Hero)

Now, I’m going to a new girl and hopefully I’ll look normal again.

I really hate having bad hair.  Really really hate it.

And to think I’d been a programmer…

Monday, June 30th, 2008

My blog went down the tubes last week when I dared to change a domain name on one of my blogs…  You would think that it would only hose that particular blog but no indeed…  It hosed up everything to the point where I had to finally DELETE my typepad account and start fresh.

So here I am.

I’d been hosting my domain through 1and1.com and decided to start actually use them to host the blog itself.   I went crazy looking for their blog tools until I (ahem) read the directions and found out I needed a different (Linux by the way) hosting package.  Then I was up and running on the 1&1 version of Wordpress.

Which I didn’t like.

Great for beginners but not as much flexibility as I crave.  So I decided to install the real wordpress.

That my friends has taken me two days.

I hated programming so much that when I became a consultant, I stopped learning new tools.  I didn’t realize until just this weekend how big of an idiot I’ve become with regards to CSS, PHP, etc…  I have no idea what the hell I am doing.   I managed to get this page up thanks to smarter people that know how to put together wordpress themes.

On order and arriving this week is “Wordpress for Dummies”.

I will prevail!!!

(oh, if you are looking for my book site - I’ve managed to screw that up too…ugh!)
